AK Khandaker was the first Chief of the Air Force after Bangladesh gained independence in 1971. AK Khandaker was the Deputy Chief of Staff during the Liberation War. AK Khandaker passed away yesterday (December 20, 2025) on Saturday. Mirza Fakrul Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has expressed his condolences and sorrow over AK Khandaker's death. He made this condolence message in a press release on the day of AK Khandaker's death.
Mirza Fakrul said - The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Liberation War, the late AK Khandaker, was the first Chief of the Bangladesh Air Force. As a former Air Vice Marshal Group Captain, he played a heroic and courageous role in the great Liberation War of Bangladesh. He was awarded the title of 'Bir Uttam' and the Swadhinata Padak in 2011 for his unique contribution to the great Liberation War.
Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, I am saddened and shocked by his eternal departure from this world. I pray that the Almighty God grants him the best of luck in heaven and the strength to bear the loss to his bereaved family.
Earlier, Mirza Fakrul had said that a group is working to sabotage the national elections in Bangladesh. They are trying to destabilize Bangladesh in various ways.
