The United States has launched a massive military operation in the ISIS-controlled areas of Nigeria. The airstrikes were carried out in the northwestern Sokoto state of the country, where the militant group was located.
US President Donald Trump confirmed this information through a post on his social media account Truth Social. The international media outlet CANN reported the matter.
The US Africa Command said the military operation in the area was carried out on the orders of US President Trump and at the request of the Nigerian government. There were no official reports of casualties in the attack, but it is believed that the Islamic State (IS) group suffered serious losses.
Earlier, Donald Trump had ordered preparations for a military operation in Nigeria a few days ago in light of allegations of persecution of the Christian community.
Radical Islamist armed groups such as ISIS and Boko Haram have established strongholds in various parts of Nigeria for more than a decade.
