Akshu Fernando lost the battle for survival

Akshu Fernando lost the battle for survival. He was a cricketer for the Sri Lankan Under-19 team. In his personal life, he was a traveler. Akshu Fernando went to the beach in Mount Lavinia, Colombo in 2018 as a tourist. But that trip turned out to be the biggest moment of his life. While traveling to the beach, he was hit by a train while crossing an unguarded railway line. He was seriously injured in the train collision and went for treatment. And that is where he spent 7 years of his life. According to his medical authorities (ESPN Cricinfo), Akshu Fernando spent most of the 7 years on life support. He was only 34 years old at the time of his death.


Akshu Fernando fought for New Zealand in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup. He had 7 fifties at the senior level. In his nine-year domestic career, this batsman played for several teams including Colts Cricket Club, Panadura Sports Club.
