Former advisor to the interim government Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has joined the National Citizens Party (NCP). Along with joining the party, he has been given the responsibility of spokesperson of the NCP. At the same time, he has also been given the responsibility of head of the party's election management committee. However, NCP convener Nahid Islam has said that he will not be a candidate in the upcoming elections.
He made this information at a press conference organized at the NCP's temporary office in the capital on Monday (December 29) evening.
Nahid Islam said that today is a very important and historic day for the NCP. Asif Mahmud has officially joined the National Citizens Party today. He will serve as the party's spokesperson. However, he is not a candidate in the upcoming national parliamentary elections. At the same time, he has also been given the responsibility of head of the NCP's election management committee.
Meanwhile, Asif Mahmud, who recently joined the NCP, said that he joined the NCP with the aim of realizing the dreams and aspirations of the martyrs of the July coup. He said that he has no plans to participate in this election. According to him, helping numerous comrades of the July coup to reach parliament is a much bigger achievement for him than becoming a member of parliament personally. He also urged the countrymen to vote 'yes' in the referendum.
National Citizens Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari spoke at the beginning of the press conference. He welcomed Asif Mahmud to the party and said that from today he is stepping down from the responsibility of the head of the election management committee. Asif Mahmud will perform this important responsibility in the future.
A total of 2,582 nomination papers have been submitted for 300 parliamentary constituencies.
Meanwhile, in view of the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, it was informed at the press conference that the NCP has submitted nomination papers for 47 out of 300 seats across the country. However, the party leadership also said that the seat-sharing or electoral agreement with the parties in the alliance, including Jamaat-e-Islami, has not yet been finalized.
