Four-day protest underway in Shahbagh demanding justice for Hadi's murder

Leaders and activists of Inqilab Mancha have started a blockade and sit-in program at Shahbagh in the capital demanding the arrest and trial of the murderers of Sharif Osman Hadir. The program has been going on for four consecutive days.


The sit-in program that started at 2:15 pm on Monday (December 29) closed the Shahbagh intersection and traffic on all the surrounding roads was also stopped.


Although the blockade was supposed to start at 2:15 pm as per the pre-scheduled program, the protesters started gathering at Shahbagh intersection after 12 noon. They took positions on the road next to the intersection and shouted slogans like 'I want justice for Hadi'. Later, at 2:15 pm, they completely blocked the intersection.


Earlier, on Saturday (December 28), Additional Police Commissioner S.N. Md. Nazrul Islam said in a briefing at the DMP Media Center that Osman Hadir's killers Faisal and Alamgir had fled to India via the Haluaghat border in Mymensingh. Efforts are being made to bring them back to their country. In addition, two people who helped the accused escape have been arrested in Meghalaya, India.


On the other hand, Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that the government is determined to prosecute incidents like the Osman Hadi murder. He said that the investigation report of this case will be submitted within the next 10 days.


Incidentally, Osman Hadi was seriously injured in a gunfight by miscreants on December 12. He was first admitted to Dhaka Medical Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Later, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital at the decision of his family.

Hadi was taken to Singapore General Hospital by air ambulance on December 15 for better treatment. He died there at around 9:30 pm on December 18. His body was brought to the country the next day and after an autopsy on December 20, he was buried next to the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
