The High Court has dismissed the petition to remove the name from the list of defaulters. As a result, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna remains a defaulter. According to the existing law, defaulters cannot be candidates in the elections.
On Wednesday (December 24), a High Court bench comprising Justice Md. Bazlur Rahman and Justice Md. Manjur Alam dismissed the writ petition filed by Manna. During the hearing, senior lawyer Ahsanul Karim and Barrister Jyortimay Barua presented arguments on Manna's behalf. Deputy Attorney General Shafiqur Rahman heard the case for the state.
However, there is an opportunity to appeal against this order of the High Court in the Chamber Court. However, he will have the opportunity to appeal only after that as the Appellate Division is on holiday for the next three days.
Earlier, Mahmudur Rahman Manna received the BNP nomination for Bogra-2 constituency as part of the alliance-based agreement. This announcement was made at a press conference at the political office of the party chairperson in Gulshan, the capital.

The notice, sent to the addresses of Manna and his partners, also mentioned that legal action would be taken if the dues were not paid by December 18.
According to the bank, Mahmudur Rahman Manna owns 50 percent of Afaku Cold Storage Limited. Of the remaining 50 percent, MD ABM Nazmul Qadir Shajahan Chowdhury and his wife and director Ismat Ara Laiju own 25 percent each.
