The intercity passenger train Agniveena Express has been derailed after miscreants removed the railway track in Gafargaon, Mymensingh. The incident that took place on Sunday (December 28) night severely disrupted train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route. As a result, several trains were stranded at various stations and passengers were in extreme distress.
Railway sources said that due to this unexpected incident, the schedule of all trains on the route has been disrupted. The accident-hit Agniveena Express is still stuck at the spot. Besides, the Jamuna Express is stopped at Mymensingh station. Two commuter trains from Dhaka to Dewanganj have also not been able to start their journey—one of them is at Kamalapur and the other at Gafargaon.
A passenger said he had to wait for a long time for the train, which caused him extreme suffering in the cold.
Another passenger waiting to go to Dhaka described the situation as politically motivated. He said, “It is always the common people who suffer in such suffering. This time too, the responsibility falls on the common people.”
A train derailed on Sunday night after a 15-foot section of the railway track was removed. However, there were no reports of casualties in the incident. Railway officials said that the repair work of the track would be completed soon.
