A shopkeeper named Sabbir Ahmed died in a fire that broke out in Sahar Bazar of Faridganj Upazila of Chandpur district. At least five shops in the market were completely burnt down due to the intensity of the fire. The tragic incident took place on Saturday (December 27) morning.

According to fire service sources, the fire broke out due to an electrical short circuit in a grocery shop of local Joynal Abedin. After the fire broke out, the employee Sabbir Ahmed, who was inside the shop, tried to get out, but was burnt and died on the spot. Within a short time, the fire spread to the nearby shops.
On receiving the information, a unit of the fire service quickly reached the spot and was able to control the fire after about an hour of effort. Panic spread in the market area due to the fire.

Meanwhile, businessmen said they had to face financial losses of several lakhs of taka as a result of the fire.
A fire broke out on a ship bound for Saint-Mantin at around 7am today (December 27). Almost all of the ship was damaged. One of the crew members on board died.
