The United States has taken new steps to corner Russia and bring down the Russian economy. What steps has the United States taken? Will this step have any harmful effect on Russia? So let's start today's report.
US sanctions on Russia
The United States imposed sanctions on two Russian oil companies on Wednesday, accusing them of delaying an end to the war in Ukraine. However, Russia conducted a major nuclear weapons training exercise on the same day. Washington announced the new sanctions on the day after a planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Putin was postponed. The US Treasury Department said the new sanctions targeted two major Russian oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, in a move that could hurt Moscow's ability to finance its war.
The announcement signalled a major shift in White House policy, which has recently shifted from pressuring Russia to seeking a more conciliatory approach to peace. Trump has also shown a reluctance to take action against Moscow in the past week. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said it was time to stop the killing and declare an immediate ceasefire. Oil prices rose by nearly $2 a barrel after his comments. In a new show of force, the Kremlin released a video showing Russian Chief of Staff General Valery Gerasimov briefing President Putin on the drills. Russia said it had fired missiles from land, submarines and aircraft, including ballistic missiles with a range that could reach the US. The Russian Defence Ministry said its long-range Tu-22M3 strategic bombers were circling the Baltic Sea. Foreign, possibly NATO, fighter jets followed the bombers at various times during the circling. On Wednesday, the European Union (EU) countries approved the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. The sanctions also include Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Interesting facts about Israel and Hamas
For many years, Israel ruled Gaza. Many civilians from both countries have been injured and killed. There is currently a ceasefire in Gaza due to Donald Trump's assassination. But the interesting thing is that after the ceasefire, Hamas tried to expand its dominance in Gaza. This angered Israel. And currently, the two sides are fighting in Gaza. In such a situation, Trump said in an interview that the ceasefire is still in effect.
