Former cricketer Imran Khan's family has now released their statement in the Indian media. This has angered Pakistan. The country's Information Minister, Ataullah Tarar, has expressed his anger over this issue.
Why did Imran Khan's family speak to the Indian media?
What Noreen Niazi said
Noreen says that “media censorship” and independent journalism are being oppressed in Pakistan — journalists are being arrested, intimidated, or forcibly silenced. She claims, “Journalists are being oppressed to the point that they don’t dare to speak out even after they come out.” She claims that her family is “not being given any information” about her brother Imran — they have not been allowed to see, communicate with, or get news of Imran for four weeks. She tells the media, “We don't know anything. They are not telling us anything, nor are they letting anybody meet him.” Noreen says that her purpose in speaking out is not political — “I have never held any government position.” Her main purpose is to highlight “the injustice of my brother, his imprisonment, incommunicado status, and human rights violations.” That is, with media freedom channels closed in Pakistan, foreign media, especially Indian media, was the only opportunity where he could “deliver good news and create awareness.”
What did Information Minister Ataullah Tarar say in anger?
Meanwhile, the jail authorities have said that all the information spread on social media about Imran is propaganda. The former cricketer is now healthy.
