The funeral prayer of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban premises and Manik Mia Avenue. The Khatib of the National Mosque will lead the prayer. Later, her body will be buried with state honors next to the grave of martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
This information was given in a statement sent by the Press Wing of the Chief Advisor on Tuesday (December 30).
The statement mentioned that the entry of the general public will be prohibited during the state funeral. For security reasons, everyone has been requested not to bring any bags or heavy items to the funeral and burial site.
Earlier in the afternoon, after a meeting of the Home Ministry regarding Khaleda Zia's funeral and burial and the overall law and order situation at the Secretariat, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that Khaleda Zia's body will be brought to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban from Evercare Hospital tomorrow morning. Special security arrangements will be tightened on both sides of the road during this time. Bringing the body, funeral and burial - all activities will be completed with full state dignity.
The United States expressed deep sorrow over the death of Khaleda Zia and extended its condolences to her family and the people of Bangladesh.
The Press Secretary said that strict security arrangements will be taken for the funeral and burial. He said that more than 10,000 law enforcement officers will be deployed on this occasion. In addition, army members will also perform duties at several important places.
It is worth noting that former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at the capital's Evercare Hospital (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). She was 80 years old at the time of her death. At that time, her eldest son and BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and close family members were present at the hospital.
