Tasnim Zara's nomination paper cancelled
The Bangladesh Election Commission has declared Tasneem Zara's nomination papers invalid after scrutinizing them. Earlier, Tasneem Zara had submitted her nomination papers, which were initially rejected by the Election Commission, and later Tasneem Zara appealed against the decision. The appeal was heard today (January 3, 2026).

Tasneem Zara was a coordinator of the July Uprising in Bangladesh. Because of some coordinators like her, Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee Bangladesh. Tasneem Zara was supposed to contest the elections from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). But since the NCP had formed an alliance with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam (Jamaat) a few days ago, Tasneem Zara submitted her nomination papers to contest the elections as an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, Tasnim Zara spoke to a journalist after her nomination papers were rejected. She said that Tasnim Zara is not a voter of the constituency from which she submitted her nomination papers to contest the elections, and this is the main reason why Tasnim Zara's nomination papers were rejected (EC)
