The dead man's gold watch was sold for 28 crores

A pocket watch found on the wreck of the Titanic, which sank more than a century ago, has sold for a record price. It was sold at an auction in the UK on Saturday for 1.78 million pounds. In Bangladeshi currency, it is 284.71 million taka (1 pound is equal to 159.95 taka). On April 14, 1912, the Titanic, which was sailing from Southampton to New York, hit a huge iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean and sank. More than 1,500 passengers died. One of them was American billionaire Isidore Strauss.

He was one of the richest passengers on the ship. His wife Ida also died in the incident. A few days after the ship sank, Isidore Strauss' body was recovered from the Atlantic Ocean. Among the items found with him was an 18-carat gold watch made by the Jules Jurgensen company. Strauss' body was recovered from the Atlantic Ocean a few days after the ship sank. The watch, which belonged to the Strauss family, was sold at an auction yesterday by Henry Allridge & Son Auctioneers in Wiltshire, UK. German-born Isidore Strauss was an American businessman and politician. He was one of the owners of the famous Macy's department store in New York. It is believed that when the Titanic sank, Strauss' wife Ida refused to leave her husband and board the lifeboat alone. She said she wanted to die with him. Ida Strauss was never found again.

A letter from Ida Strauss, written on official Titanic paper and sent while on the ship, also sold for 100,000 pounds at yesterday's auction. In addition, a list of Titanic passengers sold for £104,000 and a gold medal given to the crew of the rescue ship RMS Carpathia by rescued passengers sold for £86,000. The auction of Titanic memorabilia brought in a total of £3 million.

Strauss' pocket watch stopped ticking at around 2:20 a.m., the same time the Titanic sank. It is believed that Ida gave the watch to her husband as a gift for his 43rd birthday in 1888. Strauss' initials are engraved on the watch. After the watch was recovered, it was returned to the Strauss family.

The watch was later preserved for generations. At one point, Isidore's great-grandson Kenneth Hollister had the watch repaired. It started working again. Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said the record sale of the watch showed that people still have an interest in the Titanic story.

"Every passenger, man, woman or child, had a story to tell. And 113 years later, those stories are still being told through memorabilia." A gold pocket watch given to the captain of the RMS Carpathia, the ship that rescued more than 700 passengers from the Titanic, sold last year for £1.56 million, a record at the time.
