Bolsonaro arrested

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been detained by federal police on Saturday, his lawyer told Reuters. Bolsonaro's lawyer, Celso Vilardi, did not give a reason for the detention. But a person familiar with the matter said the preventive measure was related to the conditions of his house arrest.
A federal police spokesman confirmed that Bolsonaro underwent initial medical tests in Brasilia this morning. The former right-wing leader of Brazil, who lost the 2022

election to leftist Lula da Silva, was sentenced to 27 years in prison in September for plotting a coup to stay in power. However, a final arrest warrant has not yet been issued in that case. This is because Bolsonaro has not yet fully completed his appeal process. He has been under house arrest for more than 100 days in a separate case. He is accused of trying to persuade the United States to intervene to stop the criminal case against him.

Bolsonaro was president of Brazil, Latin America's largest country, from 2019 to 2022. According to a Reuters report, the detention of the right-wing former president is feared to further strain the US-Brazil relationship. On Thursday, US President Donald Trump said he was surprised and very unhappy with Bolsonaro's conviction.
