The United States is taking the lead on which direction Ukraine will take. | Instant World News
Ukraine has been at war with Russia for a long time with the support of the United States. Although the United States has been standing on Ukraine's side with an umbrella, Donald Trump has been trying desperately to stop the war for some time now. After all of Trump's efforts failed, he has considered withdrawing from the Ukrainian side.

What is Trump saying?

US President Donald Trump has been making various statements about the peace plan prepared by US and Russian representatives to end the war in Ukraine. An indication is becoming increasingly clear from these statements that the US will abandon them if the plan to end the war is not accepted by Ukraine and its European allies.

The 28-point plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war, which has been going on for almost four years, recently came to the fore. Among the points is that Ukraine will have to cede some of its eastern territories to Russia to stop the conflict. In addition, Kiev will have to reduce the size of its military. The country will also receive less US military assistance. Regarding this plan, Trump said last Friday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "has to accept" this US plan.

Because he is no longer in a negotiating mood. In addition to mentioning that this plan is not final, the US president also said that if Zelensky does not accept the plan, he will have to fight alone. Zelensky addressed the nation on Friday on the issue. There he acknowledged this difficult reality. The Ukrainian president referred to it as a dual crisis. On the one hand, there is the risk of losing the United States as an ally; on the other, there is the risk of surrendering to Russia. Because many of the 28 points coincide with Moscow's demands. If Ukraine loses US support, the consequences could be profound.

Because Washington is providing the country with significant assistance through the supply of weapons and intelligence. If this assistance is stopped, Kiev could face further crises with a shortage of troops, a shaky economy, and a demoralized military. Most importantly, rejecting the plan would mean severing ties between the United States and Ukraine.

This could also put Kiev's European allies in a strategic crisis. The United States could withdraw from the security guarantees it has given to Ukraine. Washington could tell not only Zelensky, but also its European allies - take care of yourselves.

Ukraine-Europe at the same table

Ukraine and its European allies are set to meet in Geneva on Sunday to discuss a US-Russian plan to end the war. Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have arrived in Geneva to attend the talks, a US official said. "We hope to work out the final details to produce a final draft that is favorable to Ukraine," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"There will be no agreement on anything until the two presidents sit down together," he said, referring to Trump and Zelensky. A number of meetings were scheduled to take place in Geneva this morning to coordinate efforts, another US official said. He said US and Ukrainian officials will hold talks in various formats. The talks are expected to be constructive and positive.

European and US officials arrived in Geneva today to attend the meetings. Zelensky led the Ukrainian delegation. The national security advisers of the three E-3 members—France, the United Kingdom and Germany—were also scheduled to attend the meeting. Outside the European Union, Italy’s representatives traveled to Geneva. Meanwhile, European and Western leaders have cited the U.S. and Russian plan as a basis for stopping the war.

They say more talks are needed to improve the plan. In such a situation, a German government source told Reuters that another plan developed by Europe based on the U.S. plan has been sent to Ukraine and the United States.
