Thailand's next national election is on February 8.

Thailand's next national election will be held on February 8, the country's Election Commission announced on Monday. The commission has ordered parties to announce their prime ministerial candidates before the end of this year.

The Election Commission said in a statement that the Election Commission today prepared a detailed draft of the election and sent a proposal to the commissioner. The commissioner has agreed to hold the election on February 8. However, early voting will be held on February 1.

Prime Minister Anutin Charanvirakul of Thailand's Bhumjaithai party took power last September. His predecessor had to resign on charges of violating ethics.

Anutin declared the dissolution of parliament last Friday, paving the way for the national election. According to Thai law, elections must be held within 45 to 60 days of the dissolution of parliament.

Thailand and Cambodia have been in conflict over the border dispute for the past few months. A new conflict has recently broken out. The ongoing conflict has killed at least 31 people and displaced nearly 800,000.

Although politically conservative, Anutin is in favour of legalising the cultivation and use of marijuana. He is currently in power with the support of a coalition. The Southeast Asian country has seen three prime ministers in the past two years.
